Anusara Yoga Workshop & Therapy Workshop - Desiree Rumbaugh - 24th - 26th February 2012

Desiree Rumbaugh teaches from the experiences of more than two decades of practice. She was one of the first students to study with John Friend, and one of the first to be certified in his Anusara method of yoga. As a full-time teacher, Desirée travels the world offering workshops, which are innovative and transformative, challenging and compassionate.

She has a well-earned reputation for deepening the most new to the most seasoned practices, through humor balanced with a quest for authenticity. September 2007 marked the release of her first DVD entitled Yoga to the Rescue, which is specially designed for those who have avoided yoga because of a lack of flexibility, low fitness level or chronic pain. Her newest DVD entitled Yoga to the Rescue for Back Pain was released in January 2008 with wide acclaim. Desiree is also a contributor to various organizations and publications, including the Yoga Journal, where she was featured on the February 2008 cover. Schedule

In this intermediate level workshop, we will review and dive deeper into the subtler aspects of the Universal Principles of Alignment through the exploration of the level 1,2 and 3 Syllabi. We will also learn intermediate pranayama techniques.

Friday

  • 10:00-12:30: Eye of the Tiger
Eye of the Tiger is a full spectrum intermediate practice which includes deep backbends and arm balances of all kinds. Pre-requisite: Students must be able to kick up to handstand at the wall unassisted and push up to urdhva danurasana (full wheel) with straight arms.
  • 14:30-17:00: Getting to The Root of Freedom: Hip Openers
Yoga is the union of our human personality with our Divine Self. This truth is recognized as we sit in meditation and as we practice our asana. Learn how to make your hip opening poses go deeper towards your own center and discover the freedom of identifying with the Divine Self rather than only what you see in the mirror.

Saturday

  • 10:00-12:30: Open Your Heart and Your Mind : Back Bends
It is not the heart that hardens through the ups and downs of life, rather it is the shell of our ego that is protecting the softness of our hearts. Backbends nudge our hearts to release the grip of fear that feeds the neurotic ego and find a new balance of strength and softness. We learn to interact with life from our hearts rather than from our heads.
  • 14:30-17:00: Yoga to the Rescue: Yoga therapy for the back, hips, knees and feet
Simple Yoga Therapy techniques for the back, hips, knees and feet

Sunday

  • 10:00-12:30: Riding the Waves of Grace: Arm Balances and Inversions
Riding the Waves of Grace. Are you ready to give up the ground you are so used to standing on? The beliefs that people cherish that become prisons for our free spirits? If so, you will love surfing gravity and turning your world upside down. Come and experience a bit of fearlessness.
